Here are a few players that are off to hot starts which could very well continue throughout the season:
Trevor Bauer, SP, CLE
Bauer continued his early season dominance on Monday, throwing 7 shutout innings against the White Sox, only allowing 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7. Bauer now has 26 K's and only 8 hits allowed in 19 IP this season, resulting in 0.95 ERA through 3 starts. He had a ridiculous 14.0% Swinging Strike% coming into the game, and all 7 of his K's on Monday were of the swinging variety as well. Bauer still has issues with control (11 BB's this season) and his .235 BABIP is likely to regress, but as long as he keeps missing bats, he could be in for a lot of success.
Jose Iglesias, SS, DET
Iglesias went 1-2 with a BB on Monday, raising his average to .439 on the season. The most impressive thing about Iglesias this season is that he has only struck out twice in 46 PA's. He batted .303 in his only full season in the big leagues in 2013, and with his ability to make contact, there's no reason to think he can't match or even beat that mark this season. Iglesias won't supply much power, but he does already have 4 steals, and at a shallow SS position, his BA and SB contributions may be enough to make him worth a roster spot in most leagues.
Salvador Perez, C, KC
Perez went 2-4 with a run and an RBI against the Twins on Monday, raising his seasonal slash line to .380/.385/.620 to go along with 3 HR's and 12 RBI. While he has only walked once this season, he has also only struck out 4 times, helping him maintain a high batting average. With many of the top catchers struggling with injuries this season (Gomes, D'Arnaud, Wieters, Mesoraco, and now Lucroy), Perez has established himself as a top-5 catcher, and is arguably #1 at his position. Assuming he can stay healthy, Perez shouldn't have much competition in making his 3rd straight AL all-star team.
Stephen Vogt, C, OAK
Vogt hit a three-run homer on Monday and is now hitting .366 with 4 HR's and 12 RBI on the young season. Again, with many of the top catchers missing time due to injuries, Vogt has risen to become among the better catchers in the league. His low strikeout rate (15.1% career K%) helps him maintain a high BA, as does the fact that he plays almost exclusively against RHP's. The only real downside with Vogt is that his sitting regularly against southpaws could stunt his counting stats, although most catcher get fairly regular days off anyways. Either way, with the thin catching situation right now, Vogt should probably be owned in most formats.
And for today's DFS pick:
Drew Pomeranz, SP, OAK
Pomeranz is off to a good start in 2015, as he has struck out 11 while only allowing 8 hits and 1 BB in 12 IP through two starts. This Tuesday, he faces an Angels team that has been struggling offensively to open the season (.218/.257/.358 as a team) and will be pitching in the pitcher-friendly Angel Stadium. He could provide good value at a very reasonable price. Value Play Draftkings Salary: $6,600
