Mike Moustakas-Royals-3B
Mike Moustakas was 4-5 with 2 R and 1 RBI in the win against the Indians. Moustakas is hitting .342 with 3 HR and 7 RBI. Moustakas has showed an increased contact rate (88%) and decreased strikeout rate (9.6%) than in years past. It is a small sample size, but they are encouraging signs for a once, very promising young hitter. Moustakas is 51% owned in Yahoo and ESPN leagues. If he is still available he is worth a shot, because his skills are trending upward and he has moved up in the batting order. This could all just be another glimpse of hope then failure for Moustakas, but at this point he is worth the gamble.
Michael Brantley-Indians-OF
Michael Brantley was 0-2 with 2 BB in the loss to the Royals. Brantley is slashing .326/0/6 with 1 SB and a .380 OBP. Brantley is going to have a hard time approaching 20 HR again, but his 91% contact and 25 % LD make him an above average hitter. Brantley will once again contribute across the board and be one of the more consistent players due to the above factors. He will continue to be a top 20 OF going forward.
Chris Carter-Astros-DH
Chris Carter was 1-5 with a RBI in the win against the Padres. Carter is hitting just .154 with 1 HR and 4 RBI. The time to panic on Carter is not now. He hit .153 with 3 HR and 8 RBI over his first 100 plate appearances in April of last year. He went on to hit .236 with 34 HR the rest of the way. If you drafted Carter hold steady and if you are in need of power, now might be the time to buy low on Carter.
Nate Karns-Rays-SP
Nate Karns went 4.2 IP and gave up 1 ER on 3 H, 2 BB, and 5 K's in the loss to the Yankees. Karns owns a 4.76 ERA over 28.1 IP so far in 2015. Karns is primarily a two-pitch pitcher with a fastball and curve. Karns curve is above average and gets 13% SwStrk rate, which is awesome. The development of Karns changeup will be key to his overall success. His change-up has nice fade, but he only used it 5% of the time last year. He has increased the usage to almost 12% this year. Karns has the potential to be a decent fourth or fifth starter for fantasy, but will really need to cut back on the free passes (5.32 BB/9) to be relevant going forward.
DFS Play of the Day
James Loney-Rays-1B
James Loney had a .337 wOBA and 27% LD rate against RHP a year ago. He comes at a very respectable price (2,600) and will hit in the middle of the Rays order. He gets to face off against Chase Whitley who gave up a .380 wOBA against left-handed hitters a year ago. Loney makes for a fine cash game play, but does not offer much of a ceiling for tournaments. FanDuel Value: $2,600
