Jason Heyward-Braves-OF
Jason Heyward was 3-4 in the loss to the Marlins. Heyward is slashing .275/11/54 with 14 SB. Heyward has never lived up to his potential, but remains a solid fantasy player because of his contributions across the board. Fantasy players should not expect Heyward to be a star and they would be much happier with the results that he has provided. Heyward has a career low 7.6% HR/FB ratio, but that could be explained by the decrease in his LD% and an increase in his GB%. Heyward is a productive fantasy player, but not the stud we all thought he was going to be.
Christian Yelich-Marlins-OF
Christian Yelich was 1-4 with 2 runs scored in the win against the Braves. Yelich has upped his slash line to .289/9/47 with 16 SB. Yelich makes good contact and has gap-to-gap power, but his tendency to hit the ball on the ground (63%) is going to dampen his fantasy outlook. Until he learns to add lift to his swing, Yelich is only going to contribute in average and stolen bases. He has the potential to do big things, but will need to make the necessary adjustments.
Alfredo Simon-Reds-SP
Alfredo Simon went 7 innings and gave up 3 ER on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 7 strikeouts in the loss to the Pirates. Simon has a 3.28 ERA over 168.1 innings with 107 strikeouts. Simon has continued to throw well, even though he has doubled his innings pitched from a year ago. Simon has a 4.09 xFIP, which suggests that he has been outperforming his stats. Simon has been a bit more hittable than someone you would normally associate with his ERA. Simon does not strikeout a lot of batters (5.61 K/9) and his SwStr% of 8.3% is below league average. Considering he has surpassed his innings total from last year, and his peripheral stats suggest that Simon might be in for a rough stretch.
Josh Harrison-Pirates-OF
Josh Harrison went 1-3 with a walk in the win against the Reds. Harrison is slashing .308/12/45 with 17 SB. Harrison is the league leader in XBH since the All-Star break. He has not slowed down and has been one of the biggest surprises in the NL. Harrison has gone from bench player, to legitimate 5-category stud. There is no reason to doubt Harrison at this point.
Drew Stubbs-Rockies-OF
Drew Stubbs was 0-4 in the win against the Diamondbacks. Stubbs is slashing .292/13/39 with 16 SB. Stubbs has had a nice bounce back season and is a reminder that if you are a struggling hitter, Coors Field is the place to go to revive your career. Stubbs has played mostly against LHP and has hit well (.355/6/15). He has also has been serviceable against RHP (.266/7/24). Stubbs should be owned at this point and in your lineup when at home (.365 at home, .214 on the road).
