Miguel Cabrera-Tigers-1B
Miguel Cabrera was 3-9 with 2 runs scored in the loss to the Blue Jays. Cabrera is slashing .304/17/84. Cabrera hasn't been hitting for power like we have all come to expect. Cabrera has been slowed by injuries in the past couple of seasons, injuries that limited his ability to swing over the off-season and could still be playing a factor in his decreased power. Cabrera's .512 SLG and .876 OPS are the lowest they have been since his rookie year. Hitters with Cabrera's body-type, do not age well and Cabrera is on the wrong side of 30. However, he still remains one of the games better hitters and fantasy owners will have to lower their expectations on Cabrera for the rest of the way.
Danny Duffy-Royals-SP
Danny Duffy went 6.2 innings and gave up 4 ER on 3 hits, 3 BB, and 4 strikeouts in the win against the Giants. Duffy has a 2.57 ERA over 115.2 innings with 91 strikeouts. Duffy has been a nice surprise for the Royals and fantasy owners. Duffy has been outperforming his metrics and is due for regression. Duffy has a 4.42 xFIP and a SIERA of 4.26. Duffy's .233 BABIP is low, his 81% LOB is above league average, and he is a flyball pitcher that has been able to limit the big fly's. Once those numbers start to normalize, Duffy is going to go through some tough stretches.
Alex Cobb-Rays-SP
Alex Cobb went 6 innings and gave up 1 ER on 6 hits and 6 strikeouts in the loss to the Cubs. Cobb has a 3.41 ERA over 185.1 innings with 102 strikeouts to 32 walks. Cobb has been dealing as of late. He's allowed two runs or fewer over his last six starts. It will be interesting to see if the Rays decide to shut him down, because he has not thrown more than 143 innings in a season. Regardless, Cobb has found his stride and will look to continue his streak against the Yankees on Friday.
Jason Hammel-Athletics-SP
Jason Hammel went 6.1 innings and gave up 1 ER on 4 hits, 2 BB, and 5 strikeouts in the loss to the Twins. This was Hammel's best start since joining the A's. Hammel has a 3.60 ERA over 137.2 innings with 123 strikeouts. Hammel has a 5.90 ERA since joining the A's. His walks have been up and strikeouts down, which is never a good combination. Hammel's xFIP for July was 4.63 and is 5.65 in August. Hammel needs to reverse this trend, to try to turn it his season around, but it seems less likely that is going to happen.
Brett Gardner-Yankees-OF
Brett Gardner was 0-4 with a strikeout in the loss to the Indians. Gardner is slashing .279/15/50 with 18 SB. Gardner has gone on a power streak lately and many owners are wondering if it is legit. Gardner has seen a spike in his HR/FB rate to a career high 14.4%, which is double, almost triple any rate that he has posted in his career. His batted ball profile does not suggest that a spike in HR/FB ratio is sustainable over the long haul. If you drafted Gardner it was not for the power, so enjoy it while it lasts.
