Jeremy Hellickson, Tampa Bay Rays - Jeremy Hellickson was recalled Saturday to start for the Rays and was very effective despite running up a very high pitch count. The righty lasted just 4.2 innings but struck out five while scattering seven baserunners. Hellickson has just thrown nine innings now over two starts and has allowed just one lone run and has struck out seven. It's hard to dive too far into his peripherals for 2014 as he's only throw nine innings but Hellickson does appear to be off to a great start. He should be back for good in the majors as he was only sent back down after his first start due to the Rays needed just four starters at the time due to their schedule. Hellickson is worth consideration to add but he does get the Angels next time out which is no easy task for a pitcher.
Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers - Justin Verlander turned in a quality start Saturday throwing seven innings while allowing three runs and striking out four. While this was still a solid outing for most, it still seems like a letdown just as Verlander has been for most of the season for fantasy owners. His ERA is the highest it's been since 2008 and his FIP of 4.13 is also the highest since 2008. His K/9 is down by almost two from last year and is off by about one and a half compared to his career average. He's likely to step up his second half, but the ace that he used to be in not here this year.
Chris Capuano, New York Yankees - The recent acquired Capuano was great for the Yankees Saturday allowing just wo runs over six innings while striking out four batters. The bullpen couldn't hold the lead for him, but Capuano definitely pitched well enough to get the win. I can't really suggest adding Capuano, but with the Yankees pitching injuries he may be able to stick in the rotation if he pitches well enough. Currently, both his FIP and ERA are over four and he is walking around 4.5 batters per nine. He does rack up the strikeouts though, so he'll be someone to watch his next time out to see if he can continue his solid start for the Yankees.
Kevin Kiermaier, Tampa Bay Rays - Kevin Kiermaier continues hit great 2014 for the Rays with two hits and his 25th RBI of the year. The outfielder has been a nice surprise and is triple slashing .310/.363/.552 since being called up earlier this year. He has already accumulated a 3.0 WAR in just 54 games and has virtually guaranteed that he will be in the lineup every day over the rest of the season. His 50% groundball rate could use some improvement, but other than that there isn't much that Kiermaier is doing wrong. Enjoy the ride owners.
Allen Webster, Boston Red Sox - Allen Webster is making his return to the big leagues Sunday to start against the Rays. He is taking the rotation from the recently traded Jake Peavy temporarily but could claim the spot for good with a solid outing. Webster did not pitch well in his first taste of the majors last year, posting an 8.60 ERA and 6.51 FIP over 30.1 innings. 2014 has been much better for Webster as he owns a 4-4 record with a 3.10 ERA in AAA Pawtucket. He is worth consideration to stream in AL league for certain as the Rays are hitting better but still not at a fantastic level. Large mixed leagues could also take a look at the righty as well to face the light hitting Rays.
