Eugenio Suarez, Detroit Tigers - The Tigers shortstop got all the hard parts of the cycle completed, but couldn't seem to add a single as he finished the game 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI. Since being called up from AAA, Suarez has been playing great hitting .400 with three homers. He jumped from AA to AAA earlier this year, and then after just 12 AAA games he was promoted to the majors. While his numbers at the major league level are still too small of a sample to really gather anything out of, he has shown a nice combination of power and speed from the shortstop position throughout the minors. He's providing a nice source of power right now so he's worth a look to help a team's middle infield but don't drop anyone too important for him.
Mike Moustakas, Kansas City Royals - Moustakas had a great day at the plate going 3-for-4 with a homer, his sixth of the year, and two RBI. His horrible 2014 is still in full effect though as his average is at a paltry .174 and his +wRC is 53. While he has played batter since being recalled from AAA, he still isn't worth adding in any leagues. His homer was the second in three games for the third baseman and he has picked up a hit in three of his last four contests. Like I said, he's not fantasy relevant in any leagues unless he goes on a huge tear, but with his track record in the majors it doesn't seem likely.
Danny Duffy, Kansas City Royals - Duffy was excellent against the White Sox with seven shutout innings and nine strikeouts. The win moves his record to 4-5 and the outing dropped his FIP to 3.88 from 4.32. While Duffy has pitched well this year, there is one combination of stats that has me worried about his rest of the season value. Duffy only has a 34% GB rate and also has just a 5.8% HR/FB rate. That high volume of non-ground balls combined with that low of a percentage of them leaving the yard is not sustainable. His xFIP (where all HR/FB%'s are set at 10.5%) is now a 4.57, which is nearly two runs higher a game than his ERA. He will need to begin forcing more groundballs in order to maintain this level of success and he gets the Tigers next time out who have hit 65 homers as a team this year.
Taijuan Walker, Seattle Mariners - Walker was dominant in AAA carrying a no-hitter into the seventh inning in what was his longest start of 2014. He struck out seven batters while picking up his first win of the season. This was actually the first time he'd thrown passed the fifth inning which is good news for people who have had him stashed all season. He's looking to work out a few kinks in AAA before getting the call to the majors, so it's uncertain when exactly we might see his debut but he's worth stashing if you can afford to do so.
Jose Altuve, Houston Astros - Altuve remained out of the lineup Saturday as he is still nursing a bruised hand after being hit by a pitch while trying to bunt Thursday. He's listed as day-to-day by the Astros and he said he feels much better and was able to take some groundballs prior to Saturday's game. Altuve is leading all of baseball with 90 hits and has 24 steals which is second among second basemen behind Dee Gordon. Altuve said he lobbied hard to play Saturday, but that the Astros training staff told him to rest it one more day so owners can deploy Altuve as usual Sunday.
