Jarred Cosart - Cosart was fairly solid over 6 2/3 against the Angels Wednesday, allowing 8 hits and 3 runs while walking 1 and striking out 8. Cosart is barely owned in any format, and no one seems to think very highly of him, but the 24 year old has now gone 8 straight starts allowing three runs or fewer. He's still not much of a strikeout pitcher most of the time, but during this run he's cut his BB/9 down to just about 3.0, which mitigates his biggest issue as a starter. His GB rate is also very solid.....he actually leads the majors in GB% against LHB. His schedule coming up involves the Diamondbacks, the Braves, and the Rays twice, which is almost enough to make me think about grabbing him in formats of moderate depth or greater. If you're a bit threadbare in the pitching department, I wouldn't be surprised if Cosart posts a halfway-decent June.
John Danks - Danks had his third straight excellent outing Wednesday, holding the Dodgers to just 2 hits and a run over 7 1/3 innings with 3 walks and 5 K's. Danks has only allowed 3 runs over 22 1/3 innings in his last three starts, and has GB rate has jumped to over 50% during those three outings. He has three straight AL Central matchups coming up, so if I were ever going to contemplate using him it would probably be now. I'm still a bit leery after the blowups in Houston and Cleveland, but particularly for the latter two starts (KC and MIN) I'd have to give it some serious thought in most formats, as the increased sinker usage the last few times out likely lessens the possibility of a disaster start a bit.
Oswaldo Arcia - It was easy to forget about Arcia during his month-long stint on the DL, but he's 12-38 with 3 homers in the 10 games since his return, so it's time to snap him up. He has a ton of contact issues and very little speed, but there aren't many legitimate potential 30-HR youngsters out there, and Arcia is one of them.
Eugenio Suarez - Suarez is up with the Tigers after nearly doubling his ISO this year over 198 ABs at AA and AAA (18 2Bs, 8 HRs). Although he didn't start Wednesday, I expect that he will get a shot at the job over the next few weeks. He has shown just enough of everything (contact ability, plate discipline, power, and speed) to think that there may be some upside here, although I'd be wary about using this year's 200-AB sample size as a jumping-off point for expectations. I think he's a deep-league starter only, and even that may be a stretch this early in his career.
Michael Saunders - Saunders got a rest against lefty Mike Minor on Wednesday, but the 27 year old is still qualifies as a hot bata as he's carrying an 8-game hitting streak and is fresh off of a 318/357/477 May. Saunders is available in most formats right now, and with the 25% LD rate and the sizable contact improvements that he's made this year, I think there is enough upside to warrant a pickup in most leagues.
