Ian Kinsler-DET- 2B The days of Ian Kinsler going 30/30 are likely over, but he still has the potential to go 15/20 at 2B, which would make him very valuable. He also hits in one of the better lineups in all baseball. Kinsler has been leading off for the Tigers to start the season. This should be a boost to his run and SB potential. Kinsler was responsible for both of the Tigers runs Tuesday, with a homerun in the fourth and the game winning single in the tenth.
David Ortiz-BOS-DH Ortiz apparently doesn't age. Ortiz continues to put up big numbers into his late 30's. Ortiz homered and drove in two runs on Tuesday. He remains a safe bet to finish around 30 HR and 95 RBI. Big Papi does have some downside to fantasy owners. He is only eligible at the DH position, which hurts lineup flexibility and he will miss a number of games throughout the year due to interleague play. However, Ortiz is still an excellent source of power and run production, despite his advancing age.
Jose Bautista-TOR-OF Bautista had a strong spring, dispelling owners' fears about the health of his wrist. Bautista was able to hit two homeruns on Tuesday night. If Bautista can stay healthy, look for a return to 35-40+ HR. He has protection in Encarnacion and a table setter in Melky Cabrera. Look for a monster season from Bautista.
Jose Altuve-HOU-2B Jose Altuve may not look like your prototypical three or four hitter, but that is where he will be hitting for the Astros this season. He will be batting third against lefthanders and fourth against righthanders. This will boost his RBI potential, but will hurt his run potential and possibly his SB total as well. You didn't draft Altuve for his power numbers, so keep an eye on Altuve's SB attempts early on.
Melky Cabrera-TOR-OF Cabrera appears to finally be healthy after having off-season surgery to remove a tumor from his back. Melky will be hitting at the top of the Jays lineup. This should provide ample opportunities to score runs and steal bases. Cabrera has a solid 87% contact rate. Couple that with his 22% LD rate and you have a hitter who will likely hit in the .290-.300 range.
