Jean Segura- MIL- Stats- Segura has gone 15-for-55 in his last 13 games so he might be showing signs of reviving a bit from his second half slump. He has also swiped 2 bases in his last 5 games after going 8 games without a steal. There might have been some regression to the mean happening. In the first half, Segura's BABIP was .349. In the second half it dropped to .298. His overall mark of .333 is not extreme for someone with his speed so don't expect bad luck to hurt him in the final weeks of the season.
Michael Wacha- STL- Caution- Wacha hasn't allowed a run in his two September starts. We are talking small sample size, but end of season memories can linger into the following season's drafts. Wacha remains a hot prospect but if his performance continues like this his value will undoubtedly rise for 2014. The thing is that his peripherals haven't been that good in these two starts that are getting St. Louis all excited. Wacha has only struck out 5 batters in 13 IP and his FIP in this scoreless stretch is 3.20. Wacha will still likely be in the Cardinals' rotation next year and could provide solid numbers but he may come with a premium price that outstrips his value.
DJ LeMahieu- COL- Hot- LeMahieu has forced himself into the fantasy picture this year by stealing bases at a pace unheard of for him. Between the majors and AAA, LeMahieu has swiped 25 bases in 129 games. Last year he stole a total of 14 in 142 games. LeMahieu only stole 9 bases across 3 levels in 2011.He has also been caught 8 times this year which may indicate that this will be the high point of his speed. Don't count on LeMahieu as a source of steals next year. He only has 3 in his last 21 games so the end may already be here.
Christian Bethancourt- ATL- Rookie- The Braves called up Bethancourt but he didn't make his major league debut yet. He has yet to play above AA but did make a big advance in his second time at that level. Bethancourt finally developed his power potential, hitting 12 homers in 90 games. He also hit .294, 13 points better than last year. Bethancourt is known for his defense but now he has shown enough offense to be in the mix for the Atlanta catching corps in 2014. He is not quite 22 years old so a year in AAA could still be a good idea than making the jump straight to the majors.
Denard Span- WAS- Hot- Span went 3-for-5 with his 4th homer of the season, all of which have come since the All Star Break. Span now has a 5-game hitting streak in which he has gone 10-for-24. He now has the same number of homers as 2012 and his slash line of .282/.331/.386 is within spitting distance of the .283/.342/.395 he had last year. Span has ended up very consistent after a tough stretch earlier this season.
