Everth Cabrera -- The Biogenesis situation came to a head yesterday, and MLB suspended Everth Cabrera 50 games. Cabrera will not appeal the suspension, effectively ending his 2013 season. Cabrera finished the year with a .283/.355/.381 slash line and an NL-leading 37 steals. He will be sorely missed by owners, particularly in deeper leagues where replacements are difficult to find.
Gio Gonzalez -- As many suspected, Gio Gonzalez avoided suspension yesterday and had his name cleared in MLB's investigation of the Biogenesis situation. Gonzalez and his owners are of course relieved, and Gonzalez remains a very good pitching option the rest of the season. His 9.4 K/9 and 3.45 xFIP make him a must-own in all but the shallowest leagues.
Cesar Puello -- As part of MLB's PED suspension levying yesterday, Mets prospect Cesar Puello was suspended 50 games and will not appeal. Puello had been hitting well at Triple-A with a .328/.405/.550 triple-slash line, 16 HR, and 25 SB. He was a second-half call-up candidate and was a good stash candidate in NL-only leagues--I owned him in Tout Wars NL--but this suspension eliminates any value he may have had.
Wilmer Flores -- With David Wright on the DL for the next 3-to-5 weeks, the Mets have recalled Wilmer Flores to man third base in his absence. Flores is batting .322 with 15 home runs at Triple-A and may be worth picking up in deep mixed leagues. As a starter with the potential to hit, he's a must-own in NL-only formats. He doesn't run well, but Flores has good bat control, a solid hit tool, and plus power potential.
David Aardsma and LaTroy Hawkins -- With closer Bobby Parnell still out of commission and possibly DL bound, David Aardsma should be owned in all leagues in which you need saves. Aardsma has been struggling of late and doesn't have very good numbers overall (3.70 ERA but a 4.65 xFIP), but talent isn't that important of a factor when it comes to converting saves (I know, it sounds counterintuitive, but it's true). Still, if he struggles, LaTroy Hawkins and his 3.25 xFIP would be a better bet anyway.
