Francisco Rodriguez -- K-Rod pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his fourth save of the year last night. He's been perfect in save opportunities since filling in for an injured Jim Henderson, so it will be interesting to see how manager Ron Roenicke treats this situation now that Henderson is set to be activated today. K-Rod's 0.91 ERA belies a 4.00 xFIP, but the immediate results are in front of Roenicke's face, and even those peripherals indicate a pitcher capable of closing games adequately enough. This is a situation to watch in the coming days.
Shaun Marcum -- Shaun Marcum was once in line to start today against Miami but was called upon last night in the 13th inning of last night's extra-inning beast of a contest and looked very impressive despite ultimately taking the loss. He went seven innings, giving up just one run (the game-loser) while striking out seven and walking none. It's Miami, but it's still a good sign for Marcum, who has really struggled (at least on the surface) since coming off the DL. Despite a high ERA, Marcum's 7.9 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 indicate a very unlucky and undervalued pitcher. Pick him up while you still can.
Steve Cishek -- It's rare to see a team's closer (or co-closer or whatever you want to call whatever is happening in Miami right now) get a save in a 20-inning game, but that's what happened last night as Cishek collected his sixth save of the year. As bad as Miami is, I promise you, they will start generating more save opportunities than they have to this point in the year, and Cishek is the best bet to take those reps when they happen.
Jose Fernandez -- Fernandez pitched six one-run innings in Miami's 20-inning affair with New York last night, striking out seven but also walking three. It's not a major red flag, but after a torrid start to the year, Fernandez has walked three batters in three of his last five starts. The strikeouts are almost always there, but this bears a bit of watching given his age and inexperience.
