Julio Teheran- ATL- Hot- Teheran continues to improve as the season progresses. His near no hitter is his 6th straight quality start and the 7th time in his last 8 games where he has walked no more than 2 batters. Teheran has struck out 20 batters in his last two outings. His FIP is higher than his ERA of 3.30, but it's still only 3.87. Teheran seems to be finally fulfilling the hype that surrounded him for several minor league seasons. He only threw 107 pitches and only has one start this season with more than 110.
Yasmani Grandal- SD- Danger- Grandal had been barely a week returned from a PED suspension when his name figured prominently in Tuesday's reports about Biogenesis. Besides a disappointing start to his major league return now he has to worry about being a second time loser on the banned substance program. Grandal is facing a 100 game suspension now.
Mikael Cleto- STL- Cold- Cleto showed both why St. Louis still looks at him as a prospect and also why he frustrates them. He was called up to add depth to a tired bullpen and was immediately needed in the 7th inning. Cleto got the remaining 7 outs of the game, 5 of them via strikeout. However, he also gave up 5 runs. Of his 59 pitches, 27 were balls. Cleto has the ability to touch triple digits on the radar gun but has control issues. At AAA Memphis this year Cleto has walked 38 in 39.2 IP while striking out 39. He had made some progress in control at AAA last year, when he was used strictly in relief, with a BB/9 of 3.69 but has regressed in 2013. This year he has relieved and started. Until he exhibits better control he isn't an attractive fantasy option.
Andres Torres- SF- Stats- Torres' extreme home/road splits in average of .356/.143 can be explained by looking at his BABIP splits of .414/.206. Overall his .270 average is boosted by a BABIP of .337. Torres' Batting EYE has deteriorated this year, dropping from .58 to .29. This is primarily due to his BB% sinking to 6.2% from 12.0%. Regression to the mean will be unkind to him.
Scooter Gennett- MIL- Rookie- Gennett got his first major league hit yesterday in his 3rd big league game. He was hitting .297 at AAA Nashville when called up on Monday. Gennett has made steady progress up the Milwaukee farm system, hitting in the .290s at each stop in the last 3 seasons at High A, AA and AAA. He has the ability to get double digit steals but won't do much in the way of homers. Gennett will get the bulk of playing time for now, with Rickie Weeks facing lefthanders. Gennett is being given an opportunity to cement a place with the Brewers and could be a sleeper for fantasy teams needing some help in the steals column.
