Tim Lincecum- SF- Cold- Last year Lincecum wasn't quite as bad at home (4.15 ERA as he was on the road (6.43 ERA.) However, a return to San Francisco didn't help him last night. Lincecum gave up 6 runs to the Rockies in 6 IP. While he struck out 7, his control was still off, with 4 walks. So far in the early going Lincecum is showing signs that overuse has caught up with him.
Wilin Rosario- COL- Hot- Rosario is well on his way to cracking the 30 homer mark, with 3 already this year. His .348 average is the product of a very lucky .357 BABIP. Rosario picked up his second walk in 25 PAs last night. We are talking very small sample size right now, but if he can maintain his increase to a .33 Batting EYE that would bode well for a solid average as well as his expected power.
Kris Medlen- ATL- Hot- Medlen didn't allow an earned run yesterday, but this was the Marlins he was pitching against. The odd thing is that he only recorded 1 strikeout. Of his 90 pitches, 62 were strikes so at this point it can be considered a statistical aberration. If he doesn't increase the 3.00 K/9 he has over his first two starts, though, Medlen will be in trouble.
Gio Gonzalez- WAS- Hot- Gonzalez has given up just 1 run in his first two starts, allowing 6 this and 4 walks while striking out 12 in 11 IP. Gonzalez only threw 5 IP last night because he had tossed 99 pitches already. The Nationals are careful with the workloads of their starters and that is a good thing long term.
Dillon Gee- NYM- Cold- As the Padres did in his first start, the Phillies had a primarily lefthanded lineup against Gee. Although lefthanders haven't pounded Gee as badly at this early point, with a .241 average and .323 OBP, expect teams to continue to employ this strategy. Gee's lefty/righty average splits were .283/.215 and there is a good chance his success will be limited against overloaded lineups.
