Kevin Youkilis, 3B, New York Yankees
"Tha Youkahh" or just plain "Youk," as most of us know him by hit his first big fly of '13 to give the Yanks the lead in the 5th, but it was to no avail as the bullpen surrendered three home runs of their own. Youkilis has gotten off to a nice start despite having zero walks in the first four games. His .375 average leads the Yankee regulars and he could help keep the offense afloat while the pinstripes get healthy.
Adam Jones, OF, Baltimore Orioles
Of the four games Baltimore has played, Jones has had three hits in three of those four games. His eight runs scored leads the MLB in the early going, and he's looking like he could be in for another stellar season. The Orioles as a team is hot offensively, so Jones could be able to put up these big numbers for a little while longer.
Josh Hamilton, OF, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Hamilton has owners everywhere worried sick, as he has been inept at the plate in the first week of the season with only one hit in 16 ABs. Pujols is struggling as well which also hurts Hamilton's current stock a bit, but I wouldn't read too much into it. It's gonna take a couple of weeks for him to get acclimated as an Angel and Pujols has been starting slow the last few years.
Albert Pujols, 1B, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim
Along with his teammate, Josh Hamilton, Pujols has struggled mightily with the lumber, recording only one hit in his 14 ABs. That makes the middle of the Angels order 2-for-30 in the first four. Again, it's a small sample size, Pujols is gonna take a little time to get going as he gets older, he's no spring chicken anymore. This slump could last the entire first month, so if you set weekly lineups, consider using a backup until Albert finds his way.
Matt Moore, SP, Tampa Bay Rays
The youngster went six strong, striking out eight in the process while only walking two. This was a promising first start for a guy who had a tough time with control last season. Moore is a big part of what can drive the Rays to the top of the AL East this season, and if he can consistently churn out starts like he did today, they should have no problem playing October baseball.
