As a reminder, each week from here until the end of the minor league season, we'll provide prospect notes on more than 60 players as well as updates to our Top 50 hitters, Top 50 pitchers, Top 5 prospects in each organization, major league debuts, and risers/fallers. In this space is a sampling of those notes.
Hitters
1 Bryce Harper WAS OF A+ Everyone wants to know when we'll see him in the big leagues. Over/under - June 1.
2 Mike Trout LAA OF A+ Nursing sore shoulder and no, we don't have a clear ETA on 2012 MLB debut.
3 Jesus Montero SEA C A Should qualify at catcher eventually. Ceiling this year: .300 with 20 HR.
4 Manny Machado BAL SS A Somewhat surprising to see him get the jump to AA, but has the talent to make the leap.
5 Jurickson Profar TEX SS A Turned 19 in Feb. and gets the jump right past A+. Timetable is accelerating.
6 Nolan Arenado COL 3B A- A hot start in AA could get him the call. Perhaps a June ETA.
8 Billy Hamilton CIN 2B A- I've seen a ton given up for this guy in fantasy leagues.
10 Travis d'Arnaud TOR C A- Better defense than Arencibia could push J.P. to 1B with d'Arnaud at catcher later this year.
13 Jake Marisnik TOR OF A- Probably opens in AA. 14 HR, 37 SB last year.
14 Devin Mesoraco CIN C B+ Solid defense this spring, so 375-400 at-bats is likely.
Pitchers
1 Matt Moore TB SP A Opens as the #3 starter,
but innings cap should be around 160.
2 Shelby Miller STL SP A Carpenter's status could get him a look in the rotation if someone struggles.
3 Julio Teheran ATL SP A Poor camp put him out of the running for the No. 5 slot. He'll be back.
4 Jameson Taillon PIT SP A 9.5 K/9 and 2.2 BB/9 last year even with not being allowed to use breaking stuff as much.
5 Trevor Bauer ARI SP A- Collmenter's struggles could put Bauer in the big leagues sooner rather than later.
6 Tyler Skaggs ARI SP A- Had some struggles this spring, but should see big league time this year.
7 Gerrit Cole PIT SP A- Struggled in the Arizona Fall League, but the stuff remians electric.
8 Manny Banuelos NYY SP A- Will open in AAA, and you have to wonder about the current depth in the Yankee rotation.
10 Drew Pomeranz COL SP A- Gets a spot in the rotation, and could be team's best pitcher as early as this year.
11 Jacob Turner DET SP A- Loses the job to Drew Smyy, but Turner still has a ton of upside.
