Doug Davis (SP--Cubs) Doug Davis got his first win of the season against five losses and it came against the New Yankees who were the unlikely victims. Davis pitched 7.1 innings and allowed just one earned run on three hits, three walks and struck out four. He lowered his ERA below the 5.00 and is now at 4.95. Prior to Friday's game, Davis had pitched five or fewer innings in his last five starts and had not gone 7.1 innings since October 2009. Despite the strong outing, Davis will have to prove so measure of consistency before he should be trusted to be activated in any lineup. Hold off on using him for now as he is still just too risky. We need to see this start wasn't a fluke.
Angel Pagan (OF--Mets) Angel Pagan took Thursday off after he sustained a small bruise on his side but was back in the lineup on Friday against the Angels. Pagan had two hits, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base. He has been surging ever since his return from the DL and is now batting .255 after going on the DL with a .178 average. He has five multi-hit games in his last nine games. Owners should be taking advantage of Pagan as a viable option in all formats. His speed plus consistent bat makes him a nice fantasy value.
Daniel Hudson (SP--Diamondbacks) Daniel Hudson pitched a complete game win over the White Sox on Friday for his eighth win of the season. He allowed just a run on three hits, a walk and struck out five. Hudson lowered his ERA to 3.56 on the season and has been doing a very consistent job of late. His previous two outings saw him pitch 13 innings and allowing just two earned runs. Over the course of the season, Hudson has been hanging around pretty well in games that he has pitched, only once not completing at least six innings of work out of 15 starts this season. Hudson has done a great job of late picking up the pace and there is no reason to believe that he won't be able to build on his recent success.
Chase Headley (3B--Padres) Chase Headley has been on a pretty good roll of late. He collected four hits in five at bats against the Twins on Friday and is now hitting .289. It was his second four-hit game in his last three games played and he has given his batting average a nice boost going from .264 to .289 in the past week. Headley hasn't been driving in the runs like fantasy owners would want him to do but he does have decent power to hit 15 or more home runs in a season and hopefully with him heating up the run production will come. He becomes more attractive as low-end option during this current hot streak.
Charlie Blackmon (OF--Rockies) It's getting harder and harder to ignore what Charlie Blackmon is doing with his bat. Friday saw Blackmon knock out four hits in four at-bats and his now batting .410 on the season. Grated this is all with just 39 at-bats for the season but he has been providing consistent hitting and with five stolen bases there is some speed there as well. Sadly, much of what Blackmon has done has been with little slugging. He has just one extra base hit, a double and nothing else. Still, it might be worth taking a short term flier on Blackmon as he seems to have busted out of the gate with all cylinders going.
