1. Miguel Olivo (C - Rockies) - Olivo broke-out of his slump on Monday with a 2-for-4 performance against the Phillies that included a double and a run scored. Olivo had been cold of late, going just 2-for-22 in the previous 6 games. For the season, Olivo has been great and certainly deserves consideration in all leagues. For awhile, you could have considered it a flash, but its looking more and more like a “career year.” He is posting an FPI of 0.73 with an .885 OPS and an ISO of .217. Like all catchers, especially those that are 32 years old, Olivo’s offensive numbers will probably slow down these last couple of months as the long season takes its toll. In the meantime, enjoy the production.
2. Dan Uggla (2B - Marlins) - Uggla had a little hiccup coming out of the break, going 1-for-16 in his first 5 games back. But with another HR last night, that is way in the past. He has 3 HR in the last four games and is back on track with his historical AB/HR rate. In fact, he is trending to one of his better power hitting years. Dating back to 2006, his AB/HR rates are 22.6, 20.4, 16.6, 18.2, and 19.2 so far in 2010. He remains one of the best power hitting 2B in the game and is red-hot right now.
3. Rickie Weeks (2B - Brewers) - The one year I decide to stay away from the injury-prone Rickie Weeks, he becomes one of the best hitting 2B in the league. He went yard again on Monday night to give him 21 for the season (the most by any 2B in the league). Aside from Robinson Cano, Weeks has arguably been the 2nd best (and some may say the best for his value on draft day) fantasy second baseman in 2010.
4. Derrek Lee (1B - Cubs) - Lee has really turned it on after the All-Star Break. A quick look at the splits says it all. Prior to the ASG, Lee posted a 0.48 FPI that included a .233 AVG, .695 OPS, ISO of .134, 32.3 AB/HR and a BB/K of 0.55. A few days off and Lee is back to his old ways (pre-2010). In 49 AB, Lee is hitting .367 with a .943 OPS, .184 ISO, 1 HR, 8 RBI, and just 5 K’s and 2 BB’s. The power has been a little shy, but he does have 7 XBH of his 18 total since the midsummer classic. Keep utilizing Lee while he’s hot and hope that he can keep it up. Its too bad the Cubs really don’t have anything to play for at this point.
5. Carlos Marmol (RP - Cubs) - Marmol remains on an incredible strikeout pace. With another save and 2 more K’s last night, Marmol now has 91 K’s for the season which gives him a K/I of 1.88 (for a K/9 equivalent of 16.95). Basically, he’s coming into the 9th inning and striking out almost 2 of the 3 batters he is facing. His season isn’t without its own hiccups, but nobody is claiming him to be Mariano Rivera. But Marmol has emerged as a good closer option converting 19-for-23 for the year with a 2.61 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP.
