Lots of movement this week with the trade deadline just a day a way. The Pirates look to be the big winners so far, acquiring Jeff Clement, Tim Alderson, and a host of others in return for guys who won't be part of the next winning season in Pittsbugh. The Indians did well in getting Scott Barnes for the expendable Ryan Garko, and they then proceeded to add a ton of depth in the Cliff Lee deal, though the Phillies getting an ace without giving up Kyle Drabek, Michael Taylor, or Dominic Brown makes that deal a win-win.
American League
41 Lou Marson CLE C B .369 in July, but just 1 HR in 207 at-bats on the year. Trade bait?
44 Lonnie Chisenhall CLE 3B B .195 in last 10 G, but like this improvement in his AB/HR over last year - 55.2 to 22.1.
45 Jordan Danks CHW OF B .357 in 42 at-bats vs. LHP for this LH hitter. That's something you really like to see.
46 Jared Mitchell CHW OF B Athletic 2009 1st rounder off to a nice start in the Sally league - .393 in 28 at-bats.
50 Jason Donald CLE SS B .,230/.293/.324 has him in danger of dropping off this list soon. Very disappointing year.
16 Michael Bowden BOS SP B+ No walks in his last start was a nice improvement. 3 ER in 16 1/3 IP over last 3 GS.
18 Mike Montgomery KC SP B+ Promoted to High-A after a 2.17 ERA in 58 IP in Low-A. 4 2/3 innings of one-run ball in debut.
19 Carlos Carrasco CLE SP B+ 6-4-6-6-4-5 in last start and a 5.97 ERA in five July starts. May not see Philly until September.
20 Tim Melville KC SP B+ 5-1-0-0-2-7 last time out was impressive. Had been coming off a 6 ER start, so nice rebound.
22 Anthony Swarzak MIN SP B Will stick in the rotation for awhile now with Slowey out indefinitely. Loses eligibility next week.
National League
1 Buster Posey SF C A Baseball's top overall prospect hitting .231 in 39 AAA at-bats, but no one is worried about his bat.
2 Jason Heyward ATL OF A Tempting to put him #1 for this: .422/.506/.734 in 64 AA abs with a 5:11 K:BB. Incredible.
4 Pedro Alvarez PIT 3B A .272/.325/.505 in AA is just ok, but we expected more from this kid. Still young though.
5 Cameron Maybin FLA OF A .328/.417/.472. Should be just a matter of time before he's back up and leading off in FLA.
6 Mike Stanton FLA OF A- .214 in first 22 AA games but .341 in last 10 and 10 HR already in 161 at-bats.
32 James McDonald LAD SP B Jason Schmidt has been awful, but McDonald hasn't been much better.
44 Andrew Cashner CHC RP B 1.50 ERA in A+ and 1.37 in 4 GS since promotion to AA. Not a bad start.
47 Jenrry Mejia NYM SP B Strained right index finger, but he should be back soon. 3.74 ERA in 4 GS since AA promotion.
49 Travis Wood CIN SP B 1.21 ERA in 19 starts = enough to get him AAA promotion. Had a 5.47 ERA last year.
50 Lance Lynn STL SP B Back-to-back 7 scoreless innings starts. 3.08 ERA and 85:35 K:BB in 102 1/3 IP.
