Each week here with the prospect updates, we provide a sampling (five starters and five pitchers from each league) of the updates made to our our top 50 hitting and top 50 pitching prospects. Again, this is just a sampling, so we urge you to become a member and get not just those lists, but also top-5 lists for all 30 teams, hot/cold prospects, and a list and brief analysis of each prospect who made his big league debut in the past week.

16 Carlos Santana CLE C A- 5 HR and 1.1 EYE help make up for .229 start, but has been a slow starter in the past, so no concerns. AL

17 Michael Bowden BOS SP B+ Nice relief appearance Sunday but it was just a one-shot deal. He'll return to starting in AAA.
18 Jake Arrieta BAL SP B+ 2.00 ERA and 22:8 K:BB in 19 IP. Like to see the BB's come down a bit over last year's 4.1 BB/9.
19 Aaron Poreda CHW SP B+ 7 shutout innings and 11 K's in last start. Belongs in AAA if not Chicago w/ Colon/Contreras struggling.
21 Brett Cecil TOR SP B+ 4:7 K:BB entering last start but then struck out 5 and walked just one. ERA sits at 8.31.
49 Trevor Reckling LAA SP B Took him all of 3 GS to get promotion to AA where he debuted with 6 shutout IP. Turns 20 in May.
National League
2 Pedro Alvarez PIT 3B A 3 H in last 2 G, but slow
start - .232/.356/.420. 0.75 EYE.
3 Jason Heyward ATL OF A Mini 1-for-12 slump leaves him at .279/.357/.508. He's going to be a beast…someday.
4 Buster Posey SF C A Sure, it's a hitter's league, but .361/.452/.625 is still noteworthy, esp. for a catcher.
29 Alicedes Escobar MIL SS B+ Already 11 SB in 20 games, but a .322 OBP won't be getting him the call any time soon.
30 Andrew Lambo LAD OF B+ .306/.354/.514. Very solid numbers, especially considering age v. level.
11 Jarrod Parker ARI SP A- Great start in a tough league - 0.95 ERA and 21:4 K:BB in 19 IP. He's rising. AA by mid-year.
13 Jordan Zimmerman WAS SP A- 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA and may be the only Nats SP you can rely on right now.
14 Carlos Carrasco PHI SP B+ Pressure from potential callup? - last start 2 2/3 IP, 8 H, 6 ER. K:BB still strong at 23:3.
16 Tim Alderson SF SP B+ 4.74 ERA, but pitching in some tough environments. 14:3 K:BB in 19 IP.
