Crazy times for me right now with the prospect spreadsheet. As I type this, the Manny Ramirez / Jason Bay / Jeremy Hermida deal has yet to go through, with multiple prospects rumored to be included in this one. Also, 2008 draftee signings are trickling in, so as they sign, they will be added to the lists if appropriate. With the August 15 signing deadline, expect this list to look significantly different in a couple weeks as guys like Pedro Alvarez, Buster Posey, and Aaron Crow are all locks for the top 50s.
That said, here are some notes for the week...
American League
13 Austin Jackson NYY OF A- .912 OPS in July despite hitting just one HR. Yankees should consider making room in '09.
15 Ben Revere MIN OF B+ AVG "down" to .399 after hitting "just" .354 in July. He's what Twins wish Carlos Gomez were.
16 Brandon Wood LAA 3B B+ .354/.443/.697 July has re-invigorated his prospect status but probably more a guy for 2009.
24 Chris Carter OAK 1B B 110 K in 105 G, but we'll live with that for his 28 HR (17 since the end of May).
25 Carlos Triunfel SEA SS B 89% CT% for the year and .465 AVG and 7 SB in last 10 games. Raw but talented.
10 Jeremy Hellickson TAM SP A- 5.13 AA ERA, but 26:4 K:BB indicates things will be just fine. For the year: 109:9 K:BB. Incredible.
13 Michael Bowden BOS SP A- 3.60 ERA in 2 GS since being promoted from AA (2.33 ERA, 101:24 K:BB there).
14 Brett Anderson OAK SP A- 1.80 ERA in 5 GS since AA promotion. For the year, a 9.9 K/9 and 4:1 K:BB.
15 Chris Tillman BAL SP A- 4 BB in each of last 2 GS highlights his struggles. Too bad he can't just pitch during the day (1.38 ERA).
18 Ian Kennedy NYY SP B+ 1.96 ERA in the minors this year so nothing left to prove there. Trade bait?
National League
6 Colby Rasmus STL OF A- .741 OPS in a disappointing year but consider the age. Knee injury wasn't serious as he's back.
9 Chase Headley SD OF A- Started with a 27:0 K:BB but is 13:8 since. Nice sleeper for 2009 unless he has a huge finish.
14 Dexter Fowler COL OF A- Just on fire recently - .407/.544/.605 in July with 26 BB in 23 G. And he's a CF.
20 Bryan Anderson STL C B Just 3 HR but hard to argue with a 21 y.o. in AAA hitting .340 with an 83% CT%.
23 Fernando Martinez NYM OF B 7-for-19 in last 4 G. AB/HR will improve from this year's 54.2 as he matures physically.
11 Madison Bumgarner SF SP A- 2.42 ERA in 4 July starts. 110:18 K:BB on the year. Let's see how he handles High-A (soon?).
12 Jarrod Parker ARI SP A- Better the last couple times out, but it may take him a bit longer than anticipated to move through sys.
23 James McDonald LAD SP B 16:13 K:BB in July is somewhat concerning, but overall, a 3.04 ERA and 8.7 K/9.
29 Jordan Zimmerman WAS SP B Semi-rough start in AA but settled in nicely with a 2.08 ERA in July (32:6 K:BB).
35 Jhoulys Chacin COL SP B 15-2 with a 1.95 ERA. Coors will limit his fantasy value, but he could see COL late next year.
