Francisco Liriano: After 3 consecutive extremely effective outings. 3/24 BB/K in 20 scoreless innings, it should be only a matter of time before Liriano rejoins the Twins. There has been some talk about him working out of the bullpen, but if he begins flashing his pre-injury skills; 10.7 K/9 and a 55%GB%, he will be in the rotation.
Livian Hernandez: A return of Francisco Liriano to the starting rotation will move Hernandez to the bullpen. With a 5.44 ERA and a very shaky skill set; 3.4 K/9, 1.7 BB/9, and a 43% GB%, Hernandez is fortunate just have a major league job.
Bobby Jenks: Jenks is rehabbing in the minor leagues and should be activated sometime this weekend. He has been very effective, 1.95 ERA and 18 saves in 21 tries, with a skill set suited for his homer-happy home park, 5.3 K/9, 2.2 BB/9, and a 64% GB%. If healthy, he will have the closer job.
Scott Linebrink: Linebrink seems to be next in line if Bobby Jenks reinjures his back. After an off-season in 2007; 3.71 ERA, 6.4 K/9, and a 3.2 BB/9, Linebrink is back in form this year; 2.37 ERA, 7.6 K/9, and a 1.4 BB/9. His K’s are on the low side for a closer and his 44% FB% could lead to some problems, especially when pitching at home, making him better suited for the set-up role.
Octavio Dotel: Dotel has been very effective this year; 2.98 ERA, 12.8 K/9, and a 4.5 BB/9. His lack of control and 46% FB% could be a very dangerous combination, but his very high number of K’s helps to mitigate any potential damage. He would be the better bet over Scott Linebrink to find success in the closer role if Bobby Jenks goes down again.
