Eddie Guardado: Guardado is expected to return from the DL on Friday. Elbow surgery knocked out most of last season, but it has been shoulder soreness that has kept him out this year. Before he went down with the elbow problem in 2006, Guardado was still showing nice skills, 9.5 K/9 and a 3.2 BB/9, but his FB% of 54% combined with his new home address is a very dangerous situation.
Willie Bloomquist: Bloomquist has been named the right-handed batting platoon half in right-field for the Mariners. With a poor approach at the plate; 80% Ct% and a 5.5% BB% in 2007, and no power, Bloomquist’s fantasy value has always been derived from his speed. After having great success on the basepaths from 2004 to 2006, 43 steals in 49 attempts, Bloomquist has found less success in the last two seasons, 8 steals in 14 attempts. If he is not successfull stealing bases, then he has no fantasy value.
Carlos Silva: Despite leaving Wednesday’s game in the sixth inning with a thigh injury, Silva expects to make his next start. Silva is off to a great start, 3-0 with a 2.83, but it is not because of elite skills; 3.9 K/9, 2.1 BB/9, and a 44% GB%. This is a great time to sell high.
Carlos Gomez: The Twins have no immediate plans to pull the struggling Gomez, 1/6/.242 in 91 AB, from their starting lineup. Based on his approach at the plate, 74% Ct% and a 2% BB%, it looks like the 22 year-old would benefit from some more seasoning in Triple-A.
Paul Konerko: Despite a slow start, .185 batting average in 65 AB, Konerko is hitting for power, 3 home runs, and his approach at the plate has remained strong, 14% BB% and a 78% Ct%. Once his .133 BHIP% begins to normalize, expect Konerko’s batting average to head north.
