Aaron Hill set the Toronto Blue Jays doubles record on Sunday with his 42nd of the season (broke Robert Alomar's record set back in 1991). He's had a nice season with all of these doubles and is hitting .276 with a .323 OBP as well. His FPI is 0.57 - nothing spectacular, but not bad for a low-end 2B in most fantasy formats. He has 16 HR and 73 RBI as well, which is decent production out of the 2B position. He'll creep up draft boards next year and rightfully so. I would like to see his 2008 eye improve slightly to get him over the 0.60 FPI hump. His eye of .39, PA/K of 6.1, and PA/BB of 15.3 needs to improve for him to get to the next FPI level.
Has anyone noticed Aubrey Huff's second half performance? Probably not since he's hidden-away in Baltimore. Since the all-star break, Huff is hitting .328 with 9 HR, 30 RBI, 109 TB, and a .542 slugging percentage. Those numbers make him a 0.79 fantasy producer in the latter half. His September continues to be smoking as well. He's hitting .415 this month with an OPS of 1.077. He has 1B, 3B, OF eligibility and he's still available in over 30% of CBS and ESPN leagues. Playing the hot-hand can sometimes make the difference, even if his name is Aubrey Huff.
Looks like the elbow and the foot blisters are doing ok. Roger Clemens pitched one of his best games of the season against a big-time team, going 6.0 IP of 0 ER/1 R ball, 4 K's, and just 2 hits against the Red Sox. He didn't factor into the win (Jeter's go-ahead HR didn't happen until after Clemens had left the game), but this performance is definitely good news for Rocket owners. He hadn't pitched in 13 days, but it looked like he was fresh and didn't experience any discomfort. And, his fastball was still hitting the mid-90's on the radar gun. If he doesn't experience any pain from this start, I'm buying on Clemens for his final two starts of the season against the Blue Jays and the Orioles.
Michael Young had quite the afternoon against Oakland on Sunday. He was 3-for-4 with a grand slam, 7 RBI, and 2 runs on a Sunday that may have kept your fantasy team alive for one more week in H2H leagues (it certainly gave one of my teams the boost it needed to sneak into the final round). This may seem like a quiet and disappointing year for Young, but he has actually made it pretty respectable. He's hitting .313 and has matched his FPI from last season at 0.65. There's no doubt his power is down with his second straight season of sub-20 HR totals and his OPS reflects it, dropping from .898 just two seasons ago to .779 today. Despite his "down"year, he's still going to flirt with 200 hits for the 5th straight season (currently at 186).
Jim Thome hit magical #500 in dramatic fashion with a walk-off 2-R shot to right-center that won the game for the White Sox. It was Thome's 28th dinger of the year. No one can deny its been a tough road for Thome this year. He has recorded just 400 AB and has played in only 119 games, down from last year's totals of 490 AB and 143 games. Injuries and age play a big roll, but when he does play, Thome can still put up some big numbers. He still managed to average a HR for every 14.3 AB and has an FPI of 0.72.
