Seth McClung: The Brewers called up the recently acquired Seth McClung from Triple-A to work in middle relief. His high minor league K/9's, 10.5 in Triple-A this year, makes him intriguing, but he should be nowhere near a fantasy roster until he proves that he can consistently avoid the walks at the major league level. This is something he has not even come close to doing, 5.6 BB/9 in 251 career innings.
Brian Wilson: With Brad Hennessey needing a day off, Brian Wilson picked up a save on Sunday against the Marlins. Touted by some as a future closer, Wilson will never get to the role unless he can cut down on the free passes, 6.3 BB/9 in 34.1 Triple-A innings and 3 walks in 5 innings this year. Avoid him in all formats until he can get his BB/9 under 3.0 for an extended period.
Hunter Pence: Pence, who had been out since July 22 with a wrist injury, returned to action last night going 1 for 6. Since he only had 12 plate appearances in 3 minor league rehab games, those in daily transaction leagues may want to wait a day or two before activating him.
Jo Jo Reyes: Reyes was hit hard last night, allowing 5 ER in 2.2 innings in Cincinnati. In 24.1 innings with the Braves this year, his ERA is 9.62 with a terrible 19/8 BB/K and 7 home runs allowed. With Chuck James on the DL, the Braves may give him another start, but those in any format of a fantasy baseball should not.
Aramis Ramirez: It has been a disappointing season in the home run department for Ramirez, 18 home runs in 374 AB, though he is still contributing in other areas, 28 doubles and a .316 batting average. Various injuries, wrist and knee, can take the blame for the power outage as his FB% of 43% is in the range of his career norms. He is just 29 years of age, so give him a pass on the power this year and if healthy expect him to come back strong next year.
